Want to visit one of the most beautiful places of Cataluña? Then Congost de Mont-Rebei should definitely be on your list!

When you will be visiting Barcelona/Cataluña and want to hike somewhere with beautiful surroundings, Congost is the best place to go to.
It´s located in a beautiful gorge with cliffs and it is formed by the Noguera Ribagorçana river. Be aware that is is approximately 3 hours from Barcelona by car. So we went here for a day on our 3 days roadtrip.

5 hours hike!?

You can do many things around here. You can go hiking like we did and you don´t need a map.
Park your car close by (you do have to pay for this) and walk. You often see people crossing by, so I could also say: follow the people! Because it is in nature you don´t have to wear a facemask (due to Corona), which I enjoyed very much.

We walked around 5 hours, up and down, and visited the last point. Even there you can go down and continue the hike, but that was too much for us.
I am not really fast, so maybe you can finish it faster. Next to that, you don’t have to go as far as we did, then it might take less time.

Mind-blowing views

I am not a person who is used to hikes and I have a weird thing that I am scared of ´stairs/heights´, but I was capable of finishing it! Hurray for me 🙂

Sometimes it might be difficult because it´s not one clear path, but the road sometimes also exists out of rocks and mud and goes up and down. I am short (1.54cm) and I struggled sometimes with the rocky roads. So I would advise you to not go alone here.

But hey, why am I saying all of these things? The views from there…. are mind-blowing! While writing it, it even makes me speechless, which is not the best as a travel blogger 😉

Kayak and other activities

Besides walking, I have read about many more activities you can do here.

In the Noguera Ribagorçana river, you can also go kayaking or canoeing. Besides heights, I am also scared of a kayak or any small boat, due to bad experiences, but I still would have wanted to try this!
On the internet I have seen many websites that offer this experience, so type in ´Congost de Mont-Rebei kayak´ and I am sure you can find a website with an affordable price.

Use the bathroom beforehand

Do you want to go even more extreme? See this website, for rock climbing, paragliding, hand gliding, or even a hot air balloon experience. But, of course, you can also go paddle surfing, with your dog as well, as the guy in the picture below.

Another tip from me: during your hike, it´s pretty difficult to go to the toilet anywhere in the wild, because it´s mostly open land and there were quite some people passing us by every 10 minutes. So don´t forget to go to the toilet at the information center and please don´t forget to take multiple bottles of water and food with you

Places nearby Congost de Mont-Rebei

Are you planning to visit more places close to Congost? Then I recommend you to visit Benabarre.

We booked our hotel in Benabarre because it is only 30 minutes from Congost. It´s a very small, but cute town and has a magnificent castle on top of the town. We only spend one evening there and were too late to visit the castle, but the view was magnificent.

The climb to the castle is pretty steep though and we struggled with reaching it after walking so much all day.
We booked a room in Hotel Casa Carmen (through Airbnb) and enjoyed our night here.

Other than that we visited Solsona and Vic, but that is 2 hours from Congost. If you want to know more about any of these two places, please let me know in a comment!

So far about Congost de Mont-Rebei. It was definitely a unique experience to hike here and I am sure it will be for many more people! What is your favorite hiking spot so far?
