Long layovers are usually not fun. You’re tired, a bit messy, and just want a shower and a bed. That’s why staying at Niranta Transit Hotel at Mumbai Airport felt like such a treat. In this article, you will read more about my experience.
What to expect in this article:
About my trip to India
In February 2026, my boyfriend and I visited India (Pondicherry <3) again, to visit his family. We had a lovely time, visiting friends, family, enjoying some free time and being in India after (for me) 2 years.
On our way back to the Netherlands, we had a long transfer in Mumbai of around 24 hours. For a travel addict like me, it is very difficult to stay at the airport when I am in a new place. For my boyfriend, it was not the first time that he visited Mumbai, as he actually lived there for a year! So I actually had a guide if we could go into this metropolis.
Little did we know we were actually not allowed to go outside the airport due to ”safety restrictions.” So we decided to go and sleep at a transit hotel (and then we were luckily allowed to go outside, even if it was just 3 hours 🙂 )
So yeah, during our layover in Mumbai, we stayed at Niranta Transit Hotel at Mumbai Airport. In this article, I will tell you more about this experience.
What is Niranta Transit Hotel?
Niranta is a transit hotel located inside/at Mumbai’s Terminal 2, which makes it super convenient for travellers with a long layover, an early flight, or a late arrival.
Like I said, we had about 24 hours at the airport, I would be going crazy if we just had to sit, maybe shop and eat. Also, because we still had a long flight back to the Netherlands after that.
The hotel has rooms, a restaurant, room service, spa services, and even massage options. And not just basic rooms, but really gorgeous rooms. Honestly, you do pay for it. It was not that cheap as you need to pay hourly. But we did get a lot of sleep and a fresh shower, which was the most important thing for us. I loved the room!

The room at Niranta Transit Hotel
The room at Niranta Transit Hotel felt luxurious, calm, clean, and very comfortable. After being in airports and planes, walking into a proper hotel room felt like entering a small private palace. Okay, maybe not an actual palace, this is Mumbai airport, not Versailles, but still, it felt fancy.
The room had that soft, relaxing hotel feeling that makes you immediately want to drop your bags, take a shower, put on comfy clothes, and say, “Nobody talk to me for the next 2 hours.”
After some hours of sleep, we got super curious and we had to get out of the airport, but that is another thing 🙂 Read more about that in the next paragraph.
Don't forget to book an activity in Mumbai
Leave Mumbai airport
One thing we really liked was that we could go out into Mumbai for a few hours with their card/pass system.
Beforehand when we landed, Indigo’s staff had told us not to go outside, because of security reasons, even though we already had a whole plan in mind. So when we heard we could go outside, we were super happy!
We had around 3 hours to explore Mumbai. The other hours we spend sleeping in the hotel. But 3 hours was okay for a small taste of Mumbai without doing too much. Mumbai traffic can be intense (although the traffic was smooth on the day we were there), so I would not recommend planning 17 activities and pretending you are in a Bollywood movie.
But for a short outing, it worked really well. Like I mentioned, my boyfriend lived in Mumbai for around a year and could tell the exact right spot where to go for just 3 hours: Bandra!
Tip: always check with the hotel and airport staff what is possible for your specific flight, visa, terminal, and timing. Airport rules can be strict, and what works for one traveller may not work for another.
Is it worth staying at Niranta Transit hotel?
In one word, yes!
Staying at Niranta Transit Hotel in Mumbai was a lovely experience.
It is expensive, yes, but it is also comfortable, luxurious, and extremely convenient. The room was beautiful, the bathroom was great, and the service made our stay feel easy and relaxed.
For a long layover in Mumbai, this hotel is a great option if you want to rest and maybe even discover Mumbai for a few hours.
