About my trip to Marrakech
In March 2026, my friend and I ended up in Marrakech after we unfortunately had to cancel our trip to Oman due to the situation there. Very sad, but I really hope the situation will get better very soon!
Of course, we were disappointed, because Oman had been on our minds for a while. But instead of sitting at home being dramatic about it, we booked Marrakech and honestly… it turned out to be such a fun girls trip. Different from Oman? Absolutely. Less calm, more chaos? Also yes. But boring? Never.
And that is exactly what Marrakech felt like to me: never boring.
What to expect while visiting Marrakech
Marrakech is one of those places where you step outside and immediately feel like your senses are being attacked… but in a cute way. If you are overwhelmed fast, I wouldn’t recommend it though 😉
There are scooters flying past you, people calling you from every angle, cats acting like they own the medina, and so many colours, smells and beautiful details everywhere that your brain does not know where to look first. It is almost like walking in India, but India is always worse (but I love India!) It is probably that I just came back from India a few days, before going to Marrakech. So I was already used to the rush 😉
I am sure you have seen too many gorgeous riads on Instagram/TikTok like me. Marrakech has become a hype in recent years, but that is also completely valid!
It is busy, lively, photogenic and full of character. It is also one of those cities where having a nice riad to come back to is not a luxury, but a necessity. Because after a day in the medina, you will want a little peaceful corner where you can sit down, drink tea and recover from your main character experience.
That is exactly why I was so happy we stayed at Riad La Gazelle du Sud.
In this article, I will share more abouut my experience at this Riad.

Sidi Bou Saïd, Tunisia: My honest travel experience you need to read

First impressions of Riad La Gazelle Du Sud
One of the first things that stood out to us at Riad La Gazelle du Sud was how incredibly kind the staff was.
We booked a taxi through the riad, which (little warning) was more expensive than it needed to be. So next time I would probably use another app or compare options first, because my wallet is still emotionally recovering from cancelling Oman.
But because cars cannot drive through the medina, one of the staff members came to pick us up, carried our suitcases, welcomed us with tea and answered all our questions.
And honestly, after arriving in Marrakech for the first time, that kind of welcome is amazing. Because the medina is not exactly the kind of place where you arrive and instantly feel like calm & confident. Next to that, it could be difficult to find the riad on first hand.
So yes, that warm welcome was very appreciated.
We stayed 5 nights in the Riad.
Practical things to know before booking
We stayed here for 5 nights, so we actually got to experience the riad properly.
Our room was definitely small, and sometimes it felt like we did not have enough storage space.
But it was cozy, comfortable and absolutely fine for our stay, especially because we were out exploring Marrakech most of the time anyway.
The bed was comfy and big! My friend and I never touched each other, and I am a sleeper who always moves.
At night, it was also nice and quiet. But we did notice a lot of water, as it was raining a lot during our time there.
Also good news for anyone who values the basics in life: the hot water worked well and the Wi-Fi was good too. So while the room may have been small, it definitely ticked the important boxes.
Don't forget to book an activity in Marrakech
Riad La Gazelle Du Sud is photogenic!
Riad La Gazelle du Sud is beautiful!
It is exactly what I expected of the famous Riads in Marrakech. It is the kind of place where you keep spotting cute corners and thinking, wait, let me take one more photo. Every corner is so unique. From the hats on the wall, the colors or the pool.
The Riads in Marrakech might be a bit costlier, but it was literally one of my dreams to sleep in one, one day. Probably also, because they are being hyped on Social Media and they all look gorgeous. I am so happy we did not choose to sleep in a boring hotel room.
The Riad was peaceful, pretty and full of character. Basically the opposite of the medina outside, which feels like it has had three coffees and no sleep (except for early in the morning).
So if you like accommodation that is photogenic and has atmosphere, this one really delivers.
Also btw, this is not a sponsored post and neither a collaboration. I just want to share my experience 🙂
Location of Riad La Gazelle Du Sud
The location is honestly a big plus.
Riad La Gazelle du Sud is right in the medina, and that means you are close to everything. We never felt far from the places we wanted to see, and that made exploring Marrakech so much easier. For example, the famous Jemaa el-Fnaa square is only an 8-minute walk. There are many beautiful restaurants nearby. The road where cars drive is a 6-minute walk. Well, if you don’t get lost… as that is very easy in Marrakech, to get lost, so good luck 😉
If you want to properly experience the city, staying in the medina just adds something extra. You walk outside and boom, you are in it. To stay outside Marrakech is cheaper, but you need to pay to travel to Marrakech of course, so if it is really cheaper, that is the question.
Marrakech is a city for wandering. Getting lost. Looking at lamps you do not need. Pretending you are not tempted to buy things. Make sure to bargain. Ignore the sellers who might be annoying, so you don’t get annoyed. Stopping for tea. Taking too many photos of doors. Oh, how much I loved walking there. Who knows, I might visit it again in the future 🙂
Breakfast at Riad La Gazelle Du Sud
We booked Riad La Gazelle du Sud online and got free breakfast! The breakfast was nice, although definitely on the sweeter side. We got nice breads, jams, yoghurt and coffee or Moroccan tea. Yum.
Unfortunately, we barely got to make use of it, because we had super early activities planned on the next mornings. One morning, we went on a Sunrise hot air balloon ride (yes!!), and another day we left early for a trip to Ait Ben Haddou, the Atlas Mountains and the Atlas studios.
We booked both through GetYourGuide, which you can find below.
I will definitely share about these experiences later on the blog. So make sure to stay tuned and check out every other article I created about Morocco here!
Anyway, so while the breakfast looked lovely, our schedule said: no relaxing for you, ladies.
The staff at Riad La Gazelle du Sud
One thing I need to talk about is the staff at Riad La Gazelle du Sud.
The staff was so hospitable, so helpful and so genuinely nice. And that really stayed with me, because good service can make a stay better, but warm people make a place memorable. Our rooms were also cleaned every day.
One amazing thing is that they helped with our suitcases coming out of the taxi. We needed to walk another 6 minutes to the Riad and that felt so luxurious for budget travellers like my friend and me. Once we reached, he took our suitcases up (there is no lift) and gave us tea, a map and explained everything about Marrakech. This made us so welcome.
Some disadvantages of Riad La Gazelle Du Sud
Of course, I have to keep it real too.
To get to the riad, you walk through a small alley. And as two women, we did not always feel completely comfortable there, because sometimes guys would talk to us. It is not the riad’s fault, and I think it is still worth staying here, but it is something I would want to know beforehand, if I were booking.
Btw, Marrakech is perfectly safe for 2 women. I will write another article about that later, which you can find here
The shower was also quite dark, and I would have loved a bit more storage space in the room. Not major problems, not “pack your bags and leave” problems, just small things that would have made the stay even better.
And again: the taxi through the riad was handy, but more expensive than necessary. So that is my practical little warning from me to you.

Would I stay here again?
Honestly, yes. Because even with those few small downsides, we really loved our stay here. The riad was beautiful, the location was great, the rooms were cleaned daily, and the staff was truly wonderful. I also feel like I have not seen everything of Morocco and Marrakech. I want to go again and visit places like Rabat, Fez and maybe Marrakech once again.
And in a city like Marrakech, where the energy is high and the medina keeps you on your toes, having a riad that feels calm, welcoming and pretty is such a gift. So even though this trip started with the disappointment of cancelling Oman, I am really glad we ended up here. Marrakech gave us colour, chaos, tea, tiny alleys, fun memories and a riad that felt like a lovely little home in the middle of it all.
Don’t forget to bring comfy shoes, a good sense of direction, and maybe do not trust yourself to say “I’m just looking” in the souks. Because you will leave with something. Probably several things 😉
Enjoy!!
