Where to stay in Málaga (Spain): Good Vibes Only Hostel

When I stayed in Málaga, I wanted something affordable, central, and, let’s be honest: fun. That’s how I ended up at Good Vibes Only Hostel. The name says it all, but what’s it actually like to stay there? Let me tell the details.

What to expect in this article:

About Málaga

Málaga… a city I have visited 3 times now! When I was studying in Sevilla, I visited it twice. It has good vibes, but most importantly: the beach! Which is something Sevilla does not have. Now, in 2025, we visited it again, as the flight tickets were cheap to fly for a reunion with classmates later in beautiful Sevilla.

Málaga: palm-lined beaches, delicious tapas, and sunshine almost all year round. But it also has beautiful architecture with its Alcazaba fortress, beautiful cathedral, and of course, it is the birthplace of Picasso.

A tip from Seyamie: You should rent a car and visit more places in Andalucía (you’ll be crazy if you dont! Andalucía has too many great places, like Sevilla, Ronda, Granada and so on). I have written many articles about Andalucía, as I lived there from 2018 – 2020. Don’t forget to rent a car through this link

About Good Vibes Only Hostel in Málaga

No bunk beds in this hostel, but at Good Vibes Only Hostel, you sleep in pods! Honestly, it felt like I was entering a mini spaceship. It seemed high-tech and I instantly fell in love! Each pod has:

  • Wi-Fi and TV (for your Netflix binge or uploading your beach selfies)

  • Air conditioning (must-have in hot Andalusian nights)

  • Locker (safe place for your stuff)

  • Towel included

  • Buttons to change the color of the lights
  • A huge mirror to do your make-up

The pods give you a bit more privacy than the usual hostel dorm. You have a keycard to open it, and a button to open it from inside out.  For a light sleeper like me, it was heaven… well, until people started coming in late at night. Because yes, like most hostels, it’s noisy. You’ll hear doors, zippers, and a few “oops, sorry” whispers at 3 a.m. But hey, that’s hostel life… at least you have a bit more privacy than in the usual hostel. Would this be the future?

Location, location, location

If you’re visiting Málaga, you’ll quickly realize how important location is. And this hostel nails it. Good Vibes Only Hostel is within walking distance of:

  • Málaga Cathedral (about 10 minutes)

  • Alcazaba fortress (10–15 minutes)

  • The beach (20 minutes, so yes, bring your towel!)

  • Tapas bars, shops, and nightlife (basically right outside your door)

I love those kind of ho(s)tels, right inside the city center, so that you can just walk around. No bus tickets are needed and in Spain, life happens outside the house. That’s something I really miss from living in Spain <3 (it is a big difference in the Netherlands).

Oh, I did not have a collaboration with the hostel, I just loved it, that’s why I am sharing it with you!

Hello, Japanese toilet!

Okay, I need to mention this: the hostel has a Japanese toilet. With many buttons you don’t even know how to use.  It’s hilarious but also surprisingly luxurious for a hostel. Definitely one of those “wait, what?!” moments when traveling. I came across a Japanese toilet for the first time in Taiwan and fell in love ever since. So for my future house, I would love it as well!

The shower is like any other shower in a hostel. Clean, but not much space to put your stuff.

One thing: if you want to leave your luggage behind for some time to explore the city, you need to pay 4 euros.

The good & the not-so-good

✔ Pods for privacy
✔ Excellent location
✔ Friendly atmosphere
✔ Japanese toilet (because why not?)

✘ No kitchen (but tapas bars everywhere, so you won’t starve)
✘ Can be noisy at night (pack earplugs and an eye mask)
✘ There was no USB-C plug!

There are individual pods and double pods, so you can even stay here with someone else.

Final thoughts of Good Vibes Hostel

If you’re looking for a budget-friendly, central, and cool place to stay in Málaga, Good Vibes Only Hostel is a good choice. The pods give you more privacy than a normal hostel, the location is good, and you’ll go home with a story about that Japanese toilet (like me) 😉

For me, it was the good balance of social hostel life and a tiny bit of personal space. Would I stay again? Definitely. Just don’t forget those earplugs.
