About Tallinn

Tallinn, the capital of Estonia, is a picturesque city known for its rich history, stunning architecture, and vibrant cultural scene. In April 2024 we had the chance to visit this awesome city. I can tell you that Tallinn completely surprised me and now belongs to one of my favorite cities in Europe!

Tallinn is a mix of old and new and has a lot of street art. There are about half a million inhabitants. When we visited this capital, we did not see many other tourists. I would say, grab your chance, before the city becomes over-popular!

I wrote a full guide about Tallinn and everything you can do in 3 days. You can read about this here (soon!).

Now you will read about two of my favorite districts in Tallinn!

1. Old Town Tallinn

Old Town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is the heart of Tallinn. Here, you’ll find yourself transported back in time as you wander through narrow alleyways lined with centuries-old buildings. Highlights include the iconic Town Hall Square, towering spires of St. Olaf’s Church, and the medieval city walls offering panoramic views.

Old Town is awesome! It is photogenic and I wanted to take pictures around every corner. Not only do you have colorful houses, and cute stores, but also the majestic Alexander Nevsky Cathedral, which is actually Russian. How cool. Tallinn also has many modern cafes, which I will tell you all about in my guide!

We wandered here for quite some hours and kept returning here.

2. Telliskivi Tallinn

Let’s go from old to new and discover Telliskivi, a trendy neighborhood brimming with creativity and innovation!
Once an industrial complex, Telliskivi has been transformed into a vibrant hub for artists, entrepreneurs, and creatives of all kinds.

You can find street art and fun art projects all over this area. It is just so enjoyable.

At the heart of Telliskivi is Fotografiska, a world-renowned photography museum housed in a former factory building. We also visited this in Stockholm. What is even more cool than the museum is the store. They sell awesome goods and it was hard for me not to buy it all.

Aside from Fotografiska, Telliskivi offers a diverse array of boutiques, art galleries, cafes, and restaurants. One of my favorite restaurants is actually based in Telliskivi, which you can read about in my guide.

Admire colorful street art adorning the walls, attend live performances and cultural events, or simply soak in the lively atmosphere of this dynamic neighborhood. You won’t regret coming here!
