About Helsinki

Helsinki is Finland’s capital with half a million inhabitants. It’s completely south of Finland and located near the sea. Most speak Finnish, great English, or Swedish.

You might not consider Helsinki directly for a city trip, but if you are visiting other cities, you should wander here for some hours. For example, when we visited Tallinn, we took a ferry (only 2.5 hours away) and spent a day there.

Or when you visit Finnish Lapland, you can have a stopover in Helsinki.

Soon I will write an article about everything that you can do one day in Helsinki.
Tallinn is awesome, so make sure to read the article below.

Helsinki Train Station

Since we came to Helsinki by ferry and only had a day to explore, we needed to store our luggage, as our hotel was a bit outside the city center.

We thought it would be easiest to store our luggage for some hours at the train station, as we needed to take the train to our hotel. There are also many trams and buses going from there, so it is quite central.

Upon arriving at Helsinki Train Station, head to the conveniently located luggage storage area on the ground floor near the main entrance. Here, you’ll find a variety of storage options, including small lockers for personal items and larger lockers for bulky luggage. There is also a toilet located next to it.

The process is simple: choose your locker size, insert your belongings, and lock it securely. Prices start at €4 for a small locker and €6 for a large locker, with hourly rates available for short-term storage needs. It can be booked for 3 to 72 hours and works with card payment. We found it quite easy and put both of our stuff in 1 larger locker for around 10 hours. This was definitely a better options and going to the hotel first and then coming back to the center!

Location of the Train Station

Situated in the heart of Helsinki, the train station provides easy access to public transportation networks and proximity to popular landmarks. After storing your luggage, step outside and immerse yourself in the city’s vibrant atmosphere. From historic landmarks like Senate Square to cultural hotspots like the Helsinki Cathedral, everything is within reach from Helsinki Train Station.

Your safety and security are top priorities when storing your luggage away from home. Finland is known for it’s low crime rate, so you either way do not have to worry much.

Accommodation in Helsinki

If you are looking for accommodation that is not too expensive (as Scandinavia is!) and decent, you can check out Finlandia Park Hotel Helsinki.

It is a bit outside the city center (40 minutes by train), but the tram stops right in front of the hotel, so it is easily reachable. It is clean and not as expensive as other hotels. They also have a pool and sauna you can use.
