Have you heard about Koskinou? I guess not, which is a pity, because it is a gorgeous and authentic village on Rhodos. It's still a hidden gem, which is why you have to visit it now, before it gets discovered by more tourists. In this article I will share my experience!

About Koskinou
Koskinou is a cute village located approximately 7 kilometers southeast of Rhodes Town on the island of Rhodes, Greece.
As it has picturesque and colorful houses, Koskinou makes you feel like you are witnessing the traditional Greek life.
The village has a population of around 3,500 inhabitants, which is not a lot.
In June 2024, I had the chance to visit this town while I was on Rhodes for 10 days. We did not have many expectations but visited because a friend recommended it. Little did I know that Koskinou would become one of my top three favorite places on Rhodes.
Photogenic Paradise of Koskinou
Walking through Koskinou is like stepping into a postcard.
The village has colorful houses and maybe even more colorful doors. Every color I have seen and sometimes it even felt like walking through Chefchaouen, the blue Moroccan town. (Read about my experience here).
Whether you like it or not, you will take many photos, as every corner is just gorgeous. Sometimes filled with color, then with flowers, but even paintings and art! Normally scooters are not my thing, but in this town, I loved to add them to my pictures.
The village of Koskinou is quite small, still, we spent all morning here, because there were so many photo spots!
Distance from Rhodos Town
One of the biggest advantages of visiting Koskinou is its distance from Rhodes Town (at least, if you are staying there like us).
While other spots on Rhodos Island might be a bit further away, this is only 30 minutes from the capital. So you can also escape the tourist crowds.
Koskinou is not touristic yet
The best part about Koskinou is that it is undiscovered by tourists (yet!). For example, when we were here all morning, we only saw one other family. Like what!?
Be aware, that just before we arrived, we saw a little train, coming from one of the hotels in Rhodos Town with a group of tourists. They probably were there early, to escape the heat later on. So if you know when they will leave, you can walk here in peace.
This is why, now is the perfect time to visit before Koskinou becomes the next big thing on the tourist map.
As there are less tourists, the locals are more friendly. This makes the town feel more authentic. An example: We were having a whole photoshoot with a scooter at a gorgeous location. Little did we know the owner was actually waiting for us to finish, which we only found out after being done. How sweet of him and how guilty we felt 😉
Free museum to visit in Koskinou
It’s a bit hidden, but there is a cute little museum that you can visit for free. It’s near the clock tower and just a few streets away. (Koskinou sometimes feels like a maze).
This hidden gem makes you get to know more about the village’s history and culture. The lady that gave us a tour, was hospitable and eager to tell us everything. When she gives you a little tour, it will take around 20 minutes and is a nice addition to your visit to Koskinou. It might be free to visit, it is nice to give a small donation.

How to get there? Taxi!
While Koskinou might be a bit off the beaten path, getting there is not the easiest. Taxis are the way to go!
A radio taxi service is available to take you wherever you want, after your visit. You can visit the radio taxi, it is close to a restaurant called Pilionas, where we had a drink to cool down and go to the bathroom.
Renting a car is also a possibility of course!

I recommend you to visit Koskinou NOW. Before it gets discovered and will be run by tourists. It’s absolutely gorgeous and the art can make you take a lot of splendid photos. Also, it’s authentic, which makes the locals still friendly.
