Is it worth buying the Liechtenstein (all-inclusive) Adventure Pass? My 2-day experience

Most people don't actually knows where Liechtenstein is. It’s a tiny principality squished between Switzerland and Austria, and it’s only 25 km long. Liechtenstein is full of mountains, castles, hiking trails, and even falcons. And the best way to explore it all? The Liechtenstein Adventure Pass.

About Liechtenstein

Here are some fun facts and basics about Liechtenstein, as most people don’t know the country:

  • Capital of Liechtenstein: Vaduz

  • Population: Around 39,000 (so, smaller than many European towns!)

  • Language: Standard  German (but most people speak English too)

  • Currency: Swiss Franc (CHF), though euros are sometimes accepted. We did everything by card though.

  • Government: It’s a principality, which means it’s ruled by a prince. And yes, the princely family really does live in Vaduz Castle up on the hill. If the flag is up, the prince is home!

  • Size: Just 160 km² – the sixth smallest country in the world.

Liechtenstein is very wealthy, super safe, and covered with mountains. It’s especially popular with hikers, skiers, and curious travellers who like to tick off unique destinations. I come under the last one 😉

When to visit Liechtenstein?

  • Summer (June–September): Best for hiking, cable cars, and outdoor activities. It will be warm and lively in Malbun. Summer (August 2025) is also when I visited.

  • Winter (December–March): Perfect if you love skiing or snowboarding. Malbun turns into a ski resort. Next time, I would love to go during winter! Although I can’t ski, but just seeing it while it is snowing must be magical.

  • Spring & Autumn: Quieter, cooler, but still beautiful for hiking and cultural visits.

My tip: Visit in summer or early autumn if you want to use the Adventure Pass fully. More attractions are open, buses run more often, and the views are stunning.

My personal experience with the Adventure pass

I had the 2-day All Inclusive Adventure Pass (gifted by Liechtenstein Marketing), and here’s how I used it:

  • Free bus rides – So handy! We parked our rented car just outside the city center of Vaduz and took the bus to reach Vaduz faster.

  • Passport stamp in Vaduz – I love stamps in my passport, so this was a must. My passport now has an exclusive Liechtenstein stamp, cool!

  • Vaduz Citytrain – Yes, it’s touristy and Vaduz is super small, but it’s informative (you get information in your own language), fun and easy way to get an overview of the capital.

  • Malbun cable car – If there is something you need to do is go to Malbun! The views of the Alps were breathtaking (and my calves were happy I didn’t have to hike all the way up). It is free if you have the Pass.

  • Discount at Bäckerei Amann – We had some really good local made cheese pie and Ovomaltine hot chocolate drink, yum!

We also planned to see the Falconry show in Malbun, but unfortunately my boyfriend did not feel well the first day, so we took it slow that day. Next time for sure!

What else is included in the All-Inclusive Adventure Pass?

Next to everything we did, there is much more that you can do with the card:

  • Gutenberg Castle – Free entry into this medieval castle in Balzers. It has Game of Thrones vibes. It was on our list to visit, but due to a sick bf, we couldn’t go.

  • Museums in Vaduz – Museum of the arts, National Museum, PostMuseum, and even a Treasure Chamber with Fabergé eggs and a moon rock.

  • Falconry Galina – A bird of prey show that looks incredible and was high on our list to go to

  • Discount on bike rentals – Because cycling through the Rhine Valley must be amazing. As a Dutchie, I can never say no to a bike ride 🙂

  • Discounts in cafés & shops – Coffee, cake, and souvenirs, all with a little price cut.

If only we had more time…

Welcome Card vs. Adventure Pass – what’s the difference?

When you’re planning a trip to Liechtenstein, you might come across two different tourist cards. The Welcome Card and the All-Inclusive Adventure Pass. Here I will explain the difference between the two.

 Welcome Card

  • Free bus rides across the country

  • Discounts at some museums, attractions, and shops

  • Handy if you just want cheaper transport and don’t plan on visiting many paid sights

Be aware: The Welcome Card is usually given out for free if you stay overnight in certain hotels or guesthouses in Liechtenstein. As we found out about this too late and were staying just over the border in Switzerland, this did not apply to us.

Adventure Pass (All-Inclusive)

  • Includes everything in the Welcome Card, plus everything I have mentioned before:

    • Free admission to all major museums in Vaduz

    • Free rides on the Malbun cable cars

    • Free Vaduz Citytrain

    • Free or discounted entry to attractions like Gutenberg Castle

    • Discounts at bakeries, cafés, and bike rental

Be aware: The Adventure Pass is paid (starting at €29 for 1 day), but if you want to explore properly and see both culture and nature, it’s the better option.
Again, check this link if you want to see everything that is included

Pros & cons of the All-Inclusive Adventure Pass

Pros:

  • Saves money if you visit multiple places in Liechtenstein (and Liechtenstein is not cheap!)
  • Unlimited bus rides make traveling stress-free and if you come by (rental) car,  parking might be free or cheaper!
  • Combines culture (museums) & nature (cable cars, hikes)
  • Cute extras like passport stamps & bakery discounts. We always love to eat some local food 🙂

Cons:

  • Not worth it if you don’t have time to use it (we lost half a day to illness)
  • Some attractions are seasonal (falconry, outdoor lifts)
  • Liechtenstein is small — if you’re only passing through quickly, you might not get full value, then it would not be worth it in my opinion

How many days do you need in Liechtenstein?

To be honest, you can see Liechtenstein in 1 day if you only focus on Vaduz and maybe another spot. Vaduz can be discovered in like 2 hours as there is not much to do.

But if you want to:

  • visit castles and museums

  • take the Malbun cable car

  • try the falconry show

  • enjoy hiking or cycling

Then 2–3 days is perfect. That’s exactly when the Adventure Pass is a good option, because you’ll use buses, museums, and attractions enough to save money.

For us: Day 1 was Vaduz and resting for my bf and day 2 we went up the cable car and walked down in Malbun.
Unfortunately, we had to drive 3 hours to our next destination, so we decided to move on from Liechtenstein. We would have loved to go to Gutenburg Castle, Stausee Steg (a Lake) and Aussichtsplattform Walderlebnispfad (it’s a platform with a great view). Oh well, next time!

Which valuta to pay with in Liechtenstein?

We did not expect it, but Liechtenstein uses the Swiss Franc (CHF)

  • Most places also accept euros, but you’ll usually get change back in francs, and the exchange rate isn’t always good. Be aware that we had to pay with coins while paying for parking the car in Malbun! So you need some cash.

  • If you have a card (Visa/Mastercard), just pay in CHF directly, it’s easiest and we paid almost everywhere by card

Once I have my own house, I also want this map!

Where to stay? Liechtenstein or Switzerland?

We based ourselves just outside Liechtenstein, in Sevelen, Switzerland, which is right across the border. We wanted to stay in Liechtenstein, but going over the border is super easy and Sevelen is only 10 minutes car ride from Vaduz. (don’t forget to rent a car, to make your trip go smoothly).
The accommodation was a bit cheaper than what we saw in Liechtenstein, so we made the decision easily.

Our accommodation was a cozy room in an old farmhouse, which had good reviews, so we decided to book this one. The cute room, creaky floorboards (but can be noisy), and countryside vibe made it such a charming stay. There was even a cat and shortly a dog, which was great for this animal lover!
The bed was so comfortable, which was great for my bf, who had to rest. The owner was kind and the garden nice. But, you might have to share a bathroom. Still, I liked this accommodation most of all the places I stayed this week.

So… is it worth it buying the All-Inclusive Adventure Card?

Absolutely, yes. Even if you just use the buses, one museum, and a cable car, you’ve already made your money back. That would make everybody happy right? 😉
Add in free stamps and discounts on food (important).

Liechtenstein may be small, but it’s filled with things to see and do. The Adventure Pass is like your cheat code to unlock it all. Honestly, some of the things we would definietly not have done, if we would not have the Adventure Card. And then our experience would never have been this fun!
So again, if you are staying for more than 1 day or you are planning to do a lot of activities, the card is definitely worth it 🙂
